Lifestyle
Guyra’s lifestyle is unique; a fortunate, privileged and safe
way to exist in this busy world. Located on top of the Great Dividing
Range at 1330 metres, life in Guyra and its surrounding district has
all the merits and opportunities of country living in a rural environment.
Its perfect location provides the experience of four distinct seasons;
‘real’ winters with several snowfalls during the season,
mild summer days with rarely a day above 30 degrees (a bonus is that
humidity is rare), stunning autumns with sensational colours, and glorious
springs with a complete sense of "coming alive" as trees start
to bud and then burst into blossom or leaf. Gardens are a wonder: a
challenge to establish because of the extremes in temperature but once
the roots find their feet gardens become showpieces. To top it off the
water is pure and the air clean.
Village living
Village lifestyle is a dying art. Guyra is the epitome of country village
life where you can walk to the main street from anywhere in town and
enjoy an atmosphere no longer readily available in most townships. The
village lifestyle and friendly personal service attracts businesses
and visitors who wish to experience the small-town shopping experience,
rather than the multi-national sameness of shopping complexes in major
towns.

streets to discover an eclectic collection of businesses. Everything

soon be added to the heritage list, which will ensure their uniqueness
is preserved. Almost every shop in the main centre is operational, which
is against the national trend for rural Australia. You can learn more
about the great variety of Guyra shopping under Business.

are an easy walk to the main street, churches, showground, heated swimming
pool, lagoon, golf course and bowling club. Rural venues allow you to

to the mountains instead of the coast for a change of scenery, pace
and temperature.

Tree Change …
a personal story
"I was born in Guyra but moved away, with my family, when I was
8 years old for Sydney and a "better" life. After 40 years
away, a long corporate career with loads of stress, far too many work
hours and a diminishing social life I decided it was time for a change.
Luckily for me I was able to come home to Guyra. It has people who genuinely
care for each other and it has everything I need to sustain a simpler,
stress-free lifestyle. It is within easy reach of beaches, all manner
of cultural activities, great shopping, wineries and beautiful bushland
when I want to indulge my senses. Living here I am able to enjoy a sustainable
lifestyle — everything from using grey-water for gardening, toilets
and car washing, to growing vegetables and recycling more efficiently.
I have started a small business, spend more time with my family than
I have in a long time and, more importantly, I have started to gain
a social life again. It was the tree change I needed to ensure I would
live long enough to see the next 40 years of my life unfold."
