There
is always something happening in and around Guyra. From January's regional Lamb & Potato Festival, to February's Annual Show, to December's Rotary Christmas Street Parade and Carnival plus sporting carnivals year round, there is something for everyone. |
Lamb
& Potato Festival Travelers find the stop in Guyra on their holidays or on their way to the Country Music Festival a chance to relax on the long trip, pick up a bargain from one of the many market stall holders, and be entertained while trying one of Guyra's famous lamb pies. There is fun for all the family and a chance to dine al fresco under the shady trees along the highway. Many people from within the region also take the opportunity
to come to Guyra for the festival and stroll down Bradley Street for some
fine food and fine shopping. This is held on the Australia Day long weekend and is always very well patronised from near and far, by enthusiasts transporting their favourite machines for display. For information regarding the Festival or Rally, contact
Ron Lockyer on 6779 1621. The Show is a 'must do' for those considering visiting
Guyra in February featuring a spectacular fireworks display on opening
night, and usually officiated by a well known celebrity. |

Christmas Carnival An event of enduring popularity is the Rotary Christmas Street Parade and Carnival. Held on the first Sunday each December, this event has street stalls, line dancing, music and entertainment for the whole family such as wool bale rolling and live music. Santa makes an appearance and you can try your luck on one of the many raffle wheels — you may even win your Christmas lunch! Local Rotarians organise the Carnival, which closes the main street for the day. In December 2007 the inaugural Great Tomatoe Crushing
Event was held with great success. This event involved teams crushing
tomatoes in a wine tub and great fun was had by all, including those who
were dunked in the resultant tomato puree! The tomatoes used were destined
for cattle feed and, following the event, the crushed tomatoes were transported
to a local cattle property. |
